Income Tax Dept Mumbai Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 97 Steno, MTS and Tax Assistant Posts

The Income Tax Department, Mumbai Region, under the Government of India, has released an official notification for the recruitment of Meritorious Sportspersons for the year 2026. This recruitment drive is being conducted by the Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr.CCIT), Mumbai to fill a total of 97 vacancies in Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ cadres.

Selection Criteria (Sports Quota)

Selection will be based on sports achievements and order of preference prescribed by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). Highest preference is given to candidates who represented India at International level, followed by National, Inter-University, Khelo India Games, and National School Games. Participation without medal will be considered only if medal-winning candidates are not available.

Applicants should upload self-attested copies of educational certificates, sports certificates in prescribed format, age proof, Aadhaar card, recent photograph, and caste certificate (if applicable). Candidates already employed in Government/PSU must upload an NOC.


Skill Test Details

Candidates selected for Stenographer Grade-II must qualify a stenography skill test. Tax Assistant candidates must pass a data entry skill test. MTS post does not require a skill test.

  8. Candidates must ensure that they have a valid and active email ID and mobile number, which should remain active till the completion of the recruitment process.
  9. Admit Cards / Call Letters will be issued only through the official website. No communication will be sent by post.
  10. No TA/DA will be paid for attending any stage of the recruitment process.
  11. If at any stage of recruitment it is found that the candidate does not fulfill the eligibility criteria, his/her candidature will be cancelled immediately.
  12. The department reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of vacancies, modify the recruitment process, or cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason.
  13. Any candidate found using unfair means or misconduct will be disqualified from the recruitment process.
  14. Selected candidates will be required to produce original documents for verification at the time of document verification.
  15. Final selection will be based on sports achievements, eligibility trials/tests, and document verification, as specified in the official notification.
